A CHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF LOUISBURG, KANSAS, FROM THE PROVISIONS OF K.S.A. 15-204 INSOFAR AS SAID STATUTE APPLIES TO THE TIMEFRAME OF APPOINTMENT OFOFFICERS OFTHE CITY; AND PROVIDING A SUBSTITUTE PROVISION ON THE SAME SUBJECT, ALLOWING APPOINTMENT OF CITY OFFICERS TO TAKE PLACE IN FEBRUARY OF EACH YEAR.
WHEREAS, the current election of the mayor takes place on the Tuesday succeeding the first Monday in November in the appropriate year; and
WHEREAS, the first official meeting of a mayor's term takes place on the second Monday the following January after said election; and
WHEREAS, mayoral appointments are currently requested for submission in the month of June; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the Governing Body to allow for a more appropriate time for making such appointments; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LOUISBURG, KANSAS:
SECTION ONE. The City of Louisburg, Kansas, by the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5 of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby elects to exempt itself from the provisions of K.S.A. 15-204 insofar as said statute applies to the appointment of city officers to take place in May of each year.
SECTION TWO. The mayor, with the consent of the council, may appoint officers mentioned in K.S.A. 15-204 at the second regular meeting of the Governing Body in February of each year.
SECTION THREE. All appointed officers who are serving the term of their appointment when this Charter Ordinance takes effect, shall hereby have their appointments extended by eight (8) months, moving the end date of their current appointment from the first regular meeting in June to the second regular meeting in February.
