A CHARTER ORDINANCE EXEMPTING THE CITY OF LOUISBURG, KANSAS, FROM THE PROVISIONS OF K.S.A. 15-204 INSOFAR AS SAID STATUTE APPLIES TO THE TIMEFRAME OF APPOINTMENT OF OFFICERS OF THE CITY; AND PROVIDING A SUBSTITUTE PROVISION ON THE SAME SUBJECT, ALLOWING APPOINTMENT OF CITY OFFICERS TO TAKE PLACE IN JUNE OF EACH YEAR.
WHEREAS, the current election of the mayor takes place at the beginning of April in the appropriate year; and
WHEREAS, the first official meeting of a mayor's term takes place at the first available meeting following said election; and
WHEREAS, mayoral appointments are currently requested for submission in the first regular meeting in May; and
WHEREAS, it has been determined by the Governing Body to allow for a more appropriate amount of time be given the mayor for consideration and contemplation before making such appointments;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE GOVERNING BODY OF THE CITY OF LOUISBURG, KANSAS:
SECTION ONE. The City of Louisburg, Kansas, by the power vested in it by Article 12, Section 5 of the Constitution of the State of Kansas, hereby elects to exempt itself from the provisions of K.S.A. 15-204 insofar as said statute applies to the appointment of city officers to take place in May of each year.
SECTION TWO. The
mayor, with the consent of the council, may appoint officers mentioned in
K.S.A. 15-204 at the first regular meeting of the Governing Body in June of
each year.
SECTION THREE. All
appointed officers who are serving the term of their appointment when this
Charter Ordinance takes effect, shall hereby have their appointments extended
by one (1) month, moving the end date of their current appointment from the
first regular meeting in May to the first regular meeting in June.
